On Tuesday, November 26, more than 80 alumni of Columbia University gathered for the annual alumni meeting at Bottega Gandolini, organized by the Columbia Alumni Association of Chile in collaboration with the Santiago Columbia Global Center.
The event was held to celebrate the end of the year by bringing together different generations of alumni to connect, reminisce about their time at Columbia, and network. This annual event also included the presentation of the Outstanding Alumni of the Year 2024 award, which honors a Columbia University graduate for their remarkable lifetime achievements, with special emphasis on their contributions to Chilean public life while living and working in Chile. This year, the award was posthumously given to the late writer, diplomat, and National Literature Prize laureate Antonio Skármeta (GSAS 66’).
His widow, sculptor Nora Preperski, accepted the tribute on his behalf. During the ceremony, his literary and cultural legacy, which continues to inspire generations, was celebrated alongside reflections and anecdotes about his time at Columbia and his life in New York.
Thank you to all the attendees and to the association's board for their dedication to strengthening our alumni community!
